Terms of Use
Last updated: June 10, 2026
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of SpecMath.com, including calculators, articles, tables, diagrams, affiliate links, and other content. By using SpecMath, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the site.
SpecMath provides free construction calculators and educational content for contractors, tradespeople, homeowners, and DIY users. The site is intended to help with planning and estimating, but it is not a substitute for professional judgment, engineering review, manufacturer instructions, supplier confirmation, or local building code requirements.
Who May Use SpecMath
You may use SpecMath for lawful personal, educational, estimating, and business planning purposes. You are responsible for making sure your use of the site is legal in your location and appropriate for your project. You may not use SpecMath in a way that interferes with the website, attempts to bypass security, overloads our systems, copies large portions of the site by automated means, or violates the rights of others.
Calculator Results Are Estimates
We work to use accurate formulas, clear unit conversions, and industry-standard constants where available. However, calculator results are estimates only. Real project quantities can change because of measurement errors, irregular shapes, waste, spillage, soil conditions, uneven subgrades, framing layout, roof complexity, manufacturer coverage rates, material availability, crew practices, and local code requirements.
For example, a concrete calculator may estimate cubic yards and bag counts from the dimensions entered, but the actual order may need adjustment for excavation variation, form movement, delivery minimums, ready-mix truck requirements, reinforcement, or weather. A roofing calculator may estimate squares and bundles, but a roof with valleys, dormers, hips, starter strips, and ridge caps may need additional material beyond a basic footprint calculation.
User Responsibility
You are responsible for verifying all measurements, quantities, assumptions, and calculations before buying materials, quoting a job, signing a contract, scheduling delivery, or starting work. Before relying on any result, confirm the inputs, units, formula assumptions, waste buffer, product coverage, supplier specifications, and local requirements.
When a project affects safety, structure, drainage, electrical load, plumbing, code compliance, or major budget risk, you should consult a qualified contractor, engineer, architect, inspector, supplier, or other appropriate professional. SpecMath does not inspect your job site and cannot know every field condition.
No Professional Advice
SpecMath content is provided for general informational and estimating purposes. It is not engineering, architectural, legal, financial, safety, or code-compliance advice. Articles and calculators may discuss common trade practices, but they cannot replace professional review for a specific property, design, jurisdiction, permit, or hazard.
Materials, Prices, and Product Information
Material yields, bag sizes, coverage rates, tool specifications, and prices can change by manufacturer, region, retailer, product line, and date. SpecMath may reference common constants such as concrete bag yields, paint coverage, roofing squares, or drywall coverage standards. You should always confirm current product labels, supplier data sheets, retailer listings, and local availability before purchasing.
Cost information, where provided, is only a planning reference. SpecMath does not guarantee material prices, labor rates, delivery fees, taxes, rental fees, disposal charges, permit costs, or contractor quotes.
Affiliate Links, Ads, and Third-Party Sites
SpecMath may display advertisements and may include affiliate links to software, tools, retailers, or other third-party products and services. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase or start a trial, SpecMath may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate commissions help keep the calculators free.
Third-party websites are not controlled by SpecMath. We are not responsible for their content, pricing, availability, terms, privacy policies, shipping, warranties, product performance, or customer service. You should review third-party terms before buying products, subscribing to software, or submitting information.
Intellectual Property
The SpecMath name, site design, calculator interfaces, diagrams, written content, page structure, and other materials on the site are owned by SpecMath or used with permission, unless otherwise noted. You may use the site for ordinary personal or business estimating. You may not copy, republish, scrape, sell, repackage, or redistribute substantial portions of the site without written permission.
You may link to SpecMath pages from your website, article, estimate, or educational material as long as the link is not misleading and does not imply sponsorship or endorsement.
User Submissions and Feedback
If you send feedback, corrections, calculator requests, screenshots, examples, or suggestions, you give SpecMath permission to use that feedback to improve the site without obligation to compensate you. Do not submit confidential customer records, private bid documents, proprietary plans, or sensitive personal information unless we specifically request it.
Availability and Changes
SpecMath may change, remove, update, pause, or discontinue any calculator, article, feature, design, formula, affiliate link, or page at any time. We may also correct errors, revise constants, improve calculation logic, or update content when better information becomes available. We do not guarantee that the site will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
Disclaimer of Warranties
SpecMath is provided on an as-is and as-available basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, SpecMath disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, reliability, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, non-infringement, uninterrupted availability, and error-free operation. Your use of SpecMath is at your own risk.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SpecMath and its operators, contributors, service providers, and partners will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or exemplary damages arising from your use of the site. This includes material shortages, overages, wrong purchases, project delays, bid errors, lost profits, rework, failed inspections, code issues, safety incidents, data loss, or reliance on calculator results.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some limitations may not apply to you. In those cases, liability will be limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
Indemnification
You agree to hold SpecMath harmless from claims, losses, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses arising from your misuse of the site, violation of these terms, violation of law, or reliance on calculator results without appropriate verification for your project.
